India is the world's largest market for gold. Surprisingly, for a precious metal, the demand for gold in India cuts through the urban-rural divide and across socio-economic classes. In fact, rural areas and the lower economic classes buy as much gold as the urban and wealthier classes. Gold is usually bought from a neighbourhood goldsmith who also doubles as a jeweller and pawnbroker. Their dealings lack transparency and they often exploit their unwary customers. Firstly, the gold they sell may not have the claimed purity. Besides, they also sell jewellery on credit or part-payment basis. Here, customers may get a raw deal because in return for the convenience of paying later, they are given gold of low purity. Indeed, our longstanding experience in gold loans is that customers often believe their jewellery is 22K gold while upon testing, it turns out to be only 18K or 19K.

To our customers, it serves as a foolproof assurance about the quality of the gold they buy from us. We have kept our making charges and prices at the lowest levels in the market, assuring affordability for a wider class of people. And in keeping with our standards of integrity and transparency, all transactions at Manappuram Riti Jewelry are billed for the full value. To be valued as pure gold the metal should contain at least 99.99% of gold. This is also called 24 Karat gold. However, pure gold is brittle and cannot be made into jewellery. Traditional Indian gold jewellery is 22 Karat which is an alloy of gold that contains at least 22/24 or 91.6% gold. This is technically called 916 purity gold. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has specified a standard for 916 purity gold.
Manappuram Riti Jewelry manufactures jewellery from metal that is at least 91.7% gold or of 917 purity. This is because we are concerned that the jewellery we sell should not be even marginally less than 916 pure as a result of any changes caused by manufacturing processes. However, this insistence on purity does not mean any higher costs for the customer since we still sell the gold at the ongoing prices for 916 gold.
All Manappuram Riti Jewelry showrooms deal exclusively in pure 917gold and GIA/IGI/SGL Certified diamonds to ensure that customers have a fool-proof assurance about the quality of their purchases. Moreover, all our showrooms provide customers with the facility to test the purity of their jewellery in our precision Karat analyzers imported from Germany.
